Chafing is one of the most common complaints among runners. Repeated friction between skin and skin or fabric damages the epidermis. Here is what causes it and how to stop it.
What Causes Chafing
Repeated friction generates heat and mechanical stress that damages outer skin layers. Common sites: inner thighs, underarms, nipples, bra lines, and anywhere clothing seams contact skin over distance. Wet skin chafes faster than dry skin because sweat increases susceptibility to friction damage.
Prevention
Apply anti-chafe balm to vulnerable areas before running. Use seamless technical fabric rather than cotton. Start long runs with clean skin — Activated Charcoal soap removes residual particles that act as abrasives under friction. Stay hydrated to keep sweat dilute and skin resilient.
Treatment
Rinse chafed skin with lukewarm water immediately. Wash gently with Tea Tree Antibacterial Bar Soap — it cleans and treats antibacterially without harshness on damaged skin. Apply a thin protective layer of balm after cleaning. Allow to air when possible.
Long Term Prevention
Regular exfoliation with our Coffee and Brown Sugar Scrub Bar removes dead skin cells from high-friction areas, keeping skin surface smoother and less prone to friction damage over time. Use two to three times per week on inner thighs and underarms.
