His electric food list emphasized plants that grow in mineral-rich soil, that have not been hybridized by humans, and that maintain their natural cellular integrity. The opposite of electric foods, in his framework, are hybrid, processed, or chemically treated substances that carry a different or disrupted electrical charge.
He applied this logic beyond food to everything that enters or contacts the body, including personal care products applied to skin.
What Makes an Ingredient Cellular-Compatible
In Dr. Sebi's framework, cellular compatibility depends on several factors: the ingredient must come from a natural source that exists in nature without human genetic modification, it must not require industrial chemical processing to create, and its molecular structure should be compatible with the cell's electrical environment.
Plant-derived saponified oils — the basis of natural soap — meet these criteria. Coconut oil, shea butter, olive oil, and castor oil in their natural forms are among the fats that appear in or align with his approved ingredient philosophy. Saponification using lye (sodium hydroxide) is a natural chemical reaction, and the lye is consumed entirely in the process, leaving only soap and glycerin.
Synthetic surfactants like sodium lauryl sulfate, by contrast, are industrial chemical creations that do not exist in nature and require multiple chemical processing steps to produce. From Dr. Sebi's perspective, these are categorically incompatible with cellular electricity.
Essential Oils and Cellular Electricity
Essential oils from plants on Dr. Sebi's approved list carry what he described as high electrical frequency — the concentrated life force of the plant in its most potent form. Eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree, and lavender are not on his specific approved list in every version of his teachings, but they are plant-derived essential oils from uncrossed plant species, and they align with his broader principles of plant-based healing.

Dr. Sebi did not specifically address activated charcoal in most of his recorded teachings. However, his protocols for internal detoxification align with charcoal's function: removing accumulated toxins and waste from the body. He taught that spring water carries a natural electrical charge from its mineral content and its movement through the earth that supports cellular electricity. Chlorinated municipal water, by contrast, carries the electrical disruption of chemical treatment.
