Comfrey Root for Skin Healing: The Knitbone Plant and Its Allantoin Mechanism

Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) has been used in European traditional medicine for over 2,000 years for wound healing, bone repair, and skin conditions. This is why internal use of comfrey is discouraged and regulated in many countries. Topical use on intact skin is considered safe, as PAs have poor dermal absorption. The wound-healing and skin care applications of comfrey are external only.
