This is distinct from the weight cutting discussed in our combat sports content, which involves acute dehydration rather than sustained caloric restriction, though extended low-calorie dieting produces its own skin consequences.
Athletes in sustained caloric deficit, particularly aggressive deficits pursued for rapid weight loss, often notice skin changes including reduced elasticity, slower wound healing, and a general dullness that reflects inadequate nutritional support for normal skin turnover.
